Holla for Challah

As usual, I am on deadline with a recipe that honors Chanukkah (which ends this evening).

Over the past weekend, I entertained a guest from New York City who asked that I make Challah bread French toast. Of course, I had to oblige.. and WOW was it a great taste sensation for a goy like me!

French Toasted Challah

INGREDIENTS

6 eggs
1 ½ cups half & half
1 tbs orange juice
1 tbs honey
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 loaf Challah bread (cut in 1” slices)
2 tbs butter
2 tbs oil (vegetable)
¼ cup sugar (castor)
1 cup maple syrup

DIRECTIONS

LAY sliced bread in a baking pan
MIX all ingredients in a large bowl
SATURATE bread with milk mixture (soak one side, turn, soak again)
HEAT butter/oil in a skillet
FRY soaked bread on both sides until lightly browned
SPRINKLE bread with castor sugar & SET ASIDE
SERVE doused with maple syrup
